I personally find the overhead's of some standard C++ techniques unacceptable when performance is the key. If you are writing an adventure where object/data management is more important than speed, then use C++. For an arcade game (on this platform), C is the way to go. I've tried doing some ASM on the Playstation but it's only worth doing for a few very specific areas (core library routines, sorting code, etc). Sony takes that same view (the core libgs routines are written in ASM, with the rest of the libs written in C).
