Could all be BS, but would EMAP stake their reputation on something as big as this if they weren't pretty sure. (Nick reads that last sentence again) Oh. Fingers crossed, eh? I *love* the bit about backwards-compatible! The release of Playstation 2 is little more than six months away. The staggering news is revealed by C&VG in their forthcoming issue, along with details of the hardware, including custom hardware support for a cutting-edge graphics rendering technique. (Nick F: nurbs?) April '99 is the date hinted at by various very reliable sources for the Japanese launch, with a European/North American roll out in the autumn period. The news should rock Sega, who were hoping for a clear 12 months headstart for Dreamcast. (Nick F: AIEEE! 1999 is going to be a v. expensive year for me) Other features of the system is that it will be fully backwards-compatible (ie. play 'old' PSX games), an expected feature and also the reason why Sony could expect to launch another system while the PSX software market is still so strong. (Nick F: I hope so!) CVG also has details of radical new graphics technology to be found in the machine, and other technical details about the disc format and architecture. Full details of CVG's scoop can be found in their forthcoming October issue, out 14th October. (Nick F: well, I guess now I have a decent excuse for buying CVG!) Please be true! Please be true! Please be true! (etc) Wotcha think? And do any of you SCEE bods have any feedback on this? Nick F
