As far as I know, you could only use the External Authoring Interface to adress a VRML browser, the Java3D API, which is quite new (I am not sure whether it is a part of JDK 1.2) or Magician, which is a Native interface for OpenGL. It might help some people if you could get a little bit more concrete.
