I can't easily think of any hardware that would be seriously damaged if somebody selected it while not knowing what they were doing. Well, projection screens might have a problem, but people who use projection screens really ought to know what NTSC and PAL are. :) If it would be permitted in pro releases the benefits to European or at least UK customers would be considerable.
