Better yet, you can learn Hiragana too (not much harder, and some games do spell English words in Hiragana). Then grab a copy of JDIC off http://www.cc.monash.edu.au/pub/nihongo and you're pretty much set for most basic stuff in games (menus, etc). (Dialogue's another matter because of the hairy grammar in Japanese.)
