The VC++ & IDE together probably take up no more that about 300Mb, but you will need to reference MSDN for all the docs on dev studio, C++,DirectX & lots of other Windows information - so its worth installing that for speed of access (takes just under 1Gb), but also bear in mind that your projects will generate a bucket load of intermediate files some of which are quite large (precompiled headers for instance) Buy the student package & a mother of a hard drive.
