Fatboy's NetYaroze HomePage
So far, I have done only one piece of work for the Yaroze, which isnt a complete game by any means. It's the first coursework for my short course on the yaroze at Middlesex University.
As I complete more coursework and do other projects, they will be made available here, as well as links to the homepages of people who have helped me in any way, although so far help has been in the form of #include files to help with certain aspects of my work.
Why not visit my FTP file area.
Project One - Cant think of an appopriate name...
This is a two-player game only, and there is only one incomplete playing area available, with no plans for any more. The coursework was to create a basic 2D game, that had at least one original feature to it. I'm not actually sure that this game has any original features to it, but it isnt a clone of anything else I've seen.
Anyway - there are two cars in this game, one of which is carrying a bomb. There is a timer at the top of the screen which counts down to zero, at which time the bomb will explode, killing the player. To get rid of the bomb, you need to ram the other car, giving the bomb to them. The bomb cannot be swapped back for a few seconds after that.
Each player has 5 lives and a health bar. A player can lose health in two ways - by getting shot by the other player, and by being hit by one of the enemies which are about to make life more difficult by being attracted to the nearest player.
Each player also has a set amount of energy, which builds up over time. The energy serves two function: Turbo - making the car go faster, and missiles for shooting the opponent. Both of these actions use energy, so use them wisely.
There are also some obstacles which can be used for hiding behind which also stop missiles, but do not stop the enemy(s) movement.
Plan:
I dont know if I'll ever get around to doing this now the coursework has been handed in, but you never know.
The background is horrible. I originally thought of having a pinball machine as a background, much like micro-machines, but then I realised that I cant draw to save my life, so that never really came about. Maybe one day.
Currently there are two enemies, the problem being that as they are identical in every way, they can easily become stuck together, and because they react the same, will not seperate. I might change this in one of two ways, either make one turn faster and the other have faster movement, or to make them attracted to the nearest player with a kind of 'gravity' - the closer they are, the more they are attracted.
There is a zip file for download in the FTP area.
Project Two
Not yet started.
This coursework is to create a 3D game or simulation.
Plan:
Not sure if its going to be a game or a simulation yet. It will definately start off as a simulation though, and maybe progress into a game if I manage to think of a plot or something to do with the sim.
Anyway, I'm going to model a helicopter of some description, and simulate its flight characteristics - probably more towards easy to control, game oriented flying - through a city.
If that works out okay and I have time, I would like to use this engine to create a game of some description. All I need for that is some kind of objective to complete - it could be some kind of race, time trial, seek and destroy - I dont know. Hopefully I will think of something to make it interesting enough to play.
