Gollum was the only hobbit, that devoted to Evil. His story, also, was one of the most peculiar ever told...

According to the reports of the One Ring, he has been a former Starr-hobbit, who lived close to the Schwertel-fields during the twentyfifth century of the third age. There he discovered, together with his cousin, the lost Ring, but then decided to kill the cousin and keep the Ring for himself. The power of the Ring changed his life, but it was the same power that crippled him past recognition. He turned incredibly ugly, made a living of bad things like murder, ate rotten meat and lived near dark ponds or in deep caves. His skin became completely hairless, his body meagre like a skeleton. His head involuted to a skull, though his eyes grew big, like fisheyes, that only know the deepest seas; they bulged from their sockets and were dull, and he was barely able to see anything. His teeth grew longer and longer, until they were like the fangs of the Ork, and his hobbit-feet got flatter and flatter and developed webs between their toes. His arms grew incredibly long, his hands reached grotesque, disproportional dimensions, but were able to unveal murderous forces.

The "Red Book of the Westmark" reports, that Gollum lived almost five centuries hidden below the Mountains Of Fog. In the year 2941 the hobbit Bilbo came, of course in the fulfillment of his destiny, to Gollum's cave and took the One Ring. Bilbo passed it to Frodo, and all the eighty years that Gollum had to be without the Ring, he never stopped searching for it with his greedy claws. Finally he met the new holder of the Ring. For some time it seemed, that Frodo might be able to tame Gollum, but his soul was already heavily dedicated to Evil, so that he made a living only of and for fraud. So it happened, that Gollum in the moment of decision, as the power of the Ring overwhelmed Frodo on the Mountain Of Mischief, attacked the brave Frodo and faught with him 'til death. Through his evil power Gollum got the Ring, but together with his prescious trophy he fell backwards into the horrible guts of Earth.

A long time has passed since then. Nowadays Gollum resides in the gothic town of Cologne in Germany, heading out to design games for the PSX.
