Giacomo Balla - Sculptural works from 1914-15.
VRML Web-Based Project. 1996
During 1914-1915, Balla produced a series of water colour designs for sculptural work which where a progression from his painting experiments. These sketches with titles such as, 'Line of Speed' and 'Vortex', were to be simple lines that would be represented in three-dimensional space in the form of sculpture. As a way of depicting movement in 3D space, Balla would paint the lines red or blue according to x,y,z direction and function.
It wasn't until the late 1960's when Balla's designs where rediscovered, did they acquire a physical manifestation. It is my intention that these works can yet again be discovered through the means of 3D computer rendering technology, utilising software not only to display and recreate Balla's work, but also utilising the internet and VRML in keeping with the Futurist ideal of artworks for the masses.
