A regular presence required By this I mean that they must check their email at LEAST once a week and reply to them all. I am as guilty as anyone for not doing this, but it really is the most basic method of encouraging sharing of ideas and cooperation along with the newsgroups. A part of this requirement would also be regular administration of your web page. |

Open access to source code A lot of people put up really interesting examples of code, but with no source code. I can understand why people do this, but I do disagree with it on this platform (source code for a competition entry is excluded though). If this web ring is to help newcomers then you must be prepared to both put up your source code on your web page, and also to discuss parts of it if questioned. |

Helping beginners Your demeanour and web site should be geared to helping beginners. This does not mean not writing your latest super-game but that there should be somemthing on your web page that is accessable to a newcomer, and not just damn frightening. Extra resources such as documents and help files and tools would be wonderful. This requirement will preclude many people whose sites are full of quite powerful programs. Rembember, this ring is not indicative of programming skill, but of a helpful personality. |
If all of these suit you and you want to try to join, then just email me with your request, any comments, and your web page. The idea isn't to end up with hundreds of sites in the ring, just a few of the more helpful ones. Obviously, by the time a newcomer has gone through hundreds of sites they should be self-sufficient!
