ÉÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍ» . º GRAVITATION º ÈÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍͼ . . v1.3DR(DemoRecorder) . . by . James Shaughnessy . (C) 1998 *** SPECIAL DEMO RECORD VERSION! *** It only works in 1 player and PODS are disabled (because of the random factor - and lack of memory I'm afraid), and digital pad only (yeah, like you'd try for a record-breaking time in ANALOG mode) Also a PAL recording will only work properly in PAL mode, and the same for NTSC, because of the different syncronization. For this reason they are kept separate in memory -- ie a recording an NTSC demo will NOT overwrite a demo saved in PAL mode, and you can only view a PAL recording in PAL mode. Type SAVEPAL or SAVENTSC at the DOS prompt to save the relevant demos in memory to "MYPAL.DAT" or "MYNTSC.DAT" in the current directory respectively. This will overwrite any previously saved demos of that name, but will not wipe Grav's default demos (DEMOPAL.DAT and DEMONTSC.DAT) unless you manually rename them. The original demos that come with Grav can be found on my page on the Hall Of Fame table (FTP/DEMODEF.ZIP) if you want to restore them. *** INSTALLATION *** This is an add-on so you will need to have/download GRAV13.ZIP too by the way. Unzip the archive to your normal Grav v1.3 directory, Then type DEMOREC to upload all the files to the yaroze, in the normal way. Type SIOCONS QUICKDR to quick load it after you've ran it once (SIOCONS QUICK will load the NORMAL version) *** TECHNICAL STUFF *** Records 50 bytes per second PAL, 60 bytes per second NTSC so 72K = approx 24 minutes PAL and 20 minutes NTSC 8K = 2m16.53s maximum per level (NTSC) starting at DEMO_ADDR 8K = 2m43.84s maximum per level (PAL) starting at DEMO_ADDR+DEMO_SIZE DEMO_SIZE MUST be evenly divisible by nine (ie 72K = 8K per level) Automatically records a demo for each map in correct location, and limits maximum size. Per frame, a single byte is recorded for the ship input status (much more efficient than storing ship coordinates and means the recording goes through the normal game engine ie. easier to implement) & BIT 1 0 Fire 1 2 1 Fire 2 4 2 Thrust 8 3 Reverse Thrust 16 4 Airbrake 32 5 Left 64 6 Right 128 7 End of demo If you reckon your pretty nifty with the Grav or you have any mates who do, why not record a demo of your skills, zip it up and send it to me -- especially if you can beat my times (quite possible -- look at the standard demos and you'll see loads of room for improvement. No really!) But be warned -- it's harder when you know it's being recorded and also more frustrating when you crash! Believe me!
