======================================================================= TRACK N' NO FIELD ======================================================================= Written by: Steven Lewis Version Number: 0.6 Last Updated: 7th January 2000 Project Status: 60% complete Web Site Address: http://www.netyaroze-europe.com/~slewis/ Still to do: Add music and sound effects, a two-player mode (for now), improve the computer AI routines, and add some of the many ideas floating around in my head... ======================== ABOUT TRACK N' NO FIELD ======================== TRACK N' NO FIELD, as it's name suggests, is based on that classic Konami game from the 80's Track & Field. One difference between the these games is again highlighted by their names: TRACK N' NO FIELD contains absolutely no field events, and come to mention it only one track event, the 100 meters. The aim of the game is simple, the player (that's you, and you're red in colour) must beat a field of seven blue computer opponents to the finish line and achieve olympic glory. Sounds simple, but the computer AI incorporates many of the latest routines used by NASA (or maybe not) so you'll need the fastest fingers in town to beat this one. While you're at it, try and beat my fastest time of 7:66 seconds. =============== PLEASE NOTE... =============== ...that as TRACK N' NO FIELD is NOT 100% COMPLETE, some of the options on the in-game menu screens are not actually implemented in code. TRACK N' NO FIELD is 1 PLAYER ONLY, and only the CHAMPIONSHIP and TIME TRIAL game modes are available. Selecting options other than these is bad for your health, and will result in you being thrust into a 1 player championship or time trial race. If I recieve good feedback about this game I may return to it after I've finished my current project. ========= CONTROLS ========= Simple this one! To make your character run, simply hammer the LEFT and RIGHT direction pad controls on pad 1 as fast as is humanly possible. A left must be followed by a right, and then a left etc. Menu options are selected with the 'X' button, which can also be used to return to the title screen once a race is complete. To exit from the game press START and SELECT at the same time. ========================== LOADING TRACK N' NO FIELD ========================== To download TRACK N' NO FIELD to the Yaroze use the auto.bat batch file included in the zip with siocons or PS Communication Utility as normal. Any problems feel free to email me and I'll help you out. ================= SNEAKY TECHNIQUE ================= One for the pro's this! When racing I place the pad in my knee (it doesn't matter which one, although left is prefered), gently hold left on the d-pad with the fore finger on my left hand, and then hammer right with the fore finger on my other hand as fast as possible! This is the only way I have ever managed to win a race... ======== CREDITS ======== EVERYTHING: STEVEN LEWIS (with the slight exception of the sky background image which is "borrowed" from the CD provided with the Andre LeMothe book 'Tricks of the Windows Game Programming Gurus') ==================== A QUICK HELLO TO... ==================== ...all the Eclipse members.
